The Brick Tribute Garden at CHS

Have you rounded the corner of the school from the parking lot to the front door lately? If you have, you were treated to the sight of the beautiful new Brick Tribute Garden. Flanked by flowering Zumi Crabapple trees and surrounded by graceful shrubbery, the Garden is a tribute to past and present students, faculty and staff of City Honors and Fosdick Masten Park. At the back of the Garden you will find two benches perfect for a moment?s rest. A United States flag, donated by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, flies high above it all. The responsibility for raising and lowering the flag each day will belong to the 8th grade class. They will receive instruction in the proper procedures from Al Lyth, President of the Fosdick Masten Park Alumni Association and other Fosdick Masten alumni.

Conceived by Foundation member Ellen Warner (Jake Class of '08) as both a fundraiser and a way to preserve tender memories, the Garden has been received enthusiastically by all who have seen it. The Foundation is grateful to Ed Dore of Ed Dore Landscapes and his employees for their artistic design and for the donation of shrubs. Ed and his crew installed the Garden during Spring break. Parent Pamela Earl (Clemmie Class of '09) will add finishing touches to the Garden by planting mums and spring bulbs this fall.

It is still possible to add your engraved brick to the Garden. A 4 X 8 brick costs $100, and an 8 X 8 brick is $250. A bench can be purchased for $1000. Brick order forms are available here, in the front office or by calling Ellen Warner at 882-5702 or Cindy Silverstein at 837-9040.
